Manure is an excellant fertilizer. The picture is some Hazelburt's at my Dad's place. Notice how the bushes to the right are small and the ones to the left are tall. 20 some years ago those Hazelburts were planted and we started to mulch them with horse manure (if my memory is right). But we never got finished mulching them. The small ones never got the horse manure.
